Recovering from Knee Replacement Surgery

Suffering from chronic knee pain or a severe injury is uncomfortable and debilitating. Knee replacement surgery, also known as arthroplasty, may be the way to relieve this pain and give you the ability to move comfortably again. As technology has advanced there are now more options for knee replacement than ever before. But as with any surgery, recovery and rehabilitation is necessary. Make sure your rehab experience is tailored to you and focused solely on your recovery.

Before undergoing this surgery it is important to research physical therapy and rehab options for post-surgery. Recovery after this operation is extensive and will require a competent therapist who will develop an individualized treatment plan for you. At The Cedars, we offer state-of-the-art equipment and eighteen full time, on-staff licensed therapists ready to treat you. Our Rehabilitation program is compressive and unique to each patient.

This operation requires the patient to be under general anesthesia. Due to the intensity of the surgery, patients will most likely have to stay in the hospital for several days. Physical therapy starts right away and will continue until muscle strength is regained and you have a full range of motion.

Once your body has recovered from the surgery, you will be sent home from the Rehab Center. After arriving home, it is very important to apply ice and keep your leg elevated to reduce swelling. Pain relieving medication may be prescribed to manage your comfort. In addition, the use of a cane or walker may be necessary to assist you with balance. After recovery and physical therapy you will be feeling great again with improved strength and range of motion.

If you would prefer to have your recovery through home care and not at a rehabilitation center, The Cedars offers a wonderful post-surgical homecare option. The key to a successful recovery is skillful medical care and our home care team is sure to provide it. Our qualified staff provides personal plans, coordinating care and services tailored to patient needs. Receive quality therapy right within the comfort of your own home.
