WELCOME

Welcome to the Cedars

Welcome to our new website. If this is your first visit, we’re very happy that you’re here. If this is a return visit, you will notice an entirely new look, new content, and even a new logo.

Following the 50-year successful history of Cedar Crest Nursing & Rehabilitation Centre, we coined The Cedars to encompass the expansion of our services, including Cedar Home Health. Going forward, we will now be known as The Cedars and thought that a new website would be a wonderful way to introduce this change and demonstrate our fresh energy, excitement and commitment to our core values. Since first opening our doors in 1970, we have always embraced change and sought every opportunity to improve, learn more, and offer more. Today between hospital and home, we are pleased to make all our patients and residents the center of our attention as we provide the highest quality, person-centered transitional care to well over 1200 people each year.

It’s our intention that The Cedars website will be a useful resource for those seeking care for themselves or a loved one. With the addition of our new Blog, we will offer fresh and informative news that we hope will keep you coming back again and again. So thank you for visiting www.cedarsliving.com. We hope that you will visit our site and read our blog often and invite you to introduce us to others.

Sincerely,
Susan K. Whipple

Our History

Transitional Care Ahead of Its Time

In 1990, Susan Whipple purchased Cedar Crest Nursing Centre, taking over a family business in which she had literally grown up—having along the way worked in almost every department. She understood from experience why Cedar Crest had developed a solid reputation for quality health care and innovation. When Cedar Crest first opened its doors in 1970, the founders envisioned an extended care facility that could bridge the gap between a hospital and a traditional nursing home. This vision was ahead of its time as the public was not ready. The intention became fully realized only years later when Susan took over the helm of Cedar Crest as CEO and owner and added this focus to enhance its mission.

“We have always been ahead of our time,” says Susan. “It was planned as a transitional care facility where a person would receive short-term care and then return home. No one was ready for that concept in the 70s.” The Cedars today is the largest privately held and operated skilled nursing and rehabilitation facility in the area. In addition to the more than one hundred residents that call The Cedars home, each year more than 1,000 people are cared for and then discharged back into the community.

An Evolution of Services

Susan’s pioneering spirit and adept vision is reinforced by the professional expertise of The Cedars staff. This strength has ensured the company’s continued growth over the years. In 1992, a special care unit named Generations was opened to provide specific services and care for residents with Alzheimer’s disease or memory-impairment. Then in 1995, Cedar Crest began to focus on Rehabilitation services. With shortened hospital stays due to stringent managed care, Cedar Crest now had the opportunity to finally transform. Each year, Cedar Crest has continued to evolve adding state-of-art equipment, training, technology, and services. Today, The Cedars is positioned as a regional leader in nursing and rehabilitation services offering a complete continuum of care from resident-centered long stay care, post-acute skilled nursing and rehabilitation, and comprehensive medical care in the home. We coined The Cedars to encompass the expansion of our services going forward. Today, we will now be known as The Cedars evoking our fresh energy, excitement and commitment to our core values.
